strengths

I studied the book Now, Discover Your Strengths by Marcus Buckingham and Donald O. Clifton, Ph. D.  At NBBJ, we used this tool during performance reviews to focus on an individuals strengths rather than weaknesses.  Accepting that everyone does not possess the same strengths enables good team building by mixing people with different strengths.  My strength assessment revealed the following top 5 strength themes:

Achiever

I work hard and thrive on accomplishment.  I gain energy by challenging myself and being rigorous in my work.

Activator

I make things happen and turn thoughts into action.  Personally and in a team setting, I like to find what is necessary to get things moving.

Learner

I have a strong desire to learn and enjoy the process of learning.  In turn, I also enjoy teaching others.  I get great satisfaction from individual, as well as team mentoring relationships.  I thoroughly enjoy passing on my knowledge to others and learning from them in the process.  I also love giving preparing and presenting information to others.  I did this in design presentations to clients, the firm, and during continuing education sessions.

Relator

I enjoy working really hard with people to achieve a goal. I appreciate teams and have had a great deal of experience in leading from any position on a team and making teams work well.

Significance

I want to be recognized and valued by others.  This one has never felt like a true strength to me, but I think it is partially what drives me to succeed.
